Chargers release safety Jimmy Wilson

SAN DIEGO -- Continuing a late-season purge of this year’s roster, the San Diego Chargers announced the team released safety Jimmy Wilson on Tuesday.

Wilson played in 13 games this season with six starts. He played in 461 defensive snaps for the Chargers, finishing with 44 combined tackles, a sack and two pass breakups.

However, Wilson had seen his playing time dwindle of late. He played in just 12 defensive snaps against the Kansas City Chiefs last week.

Wilson signed a two-year, $4.25 million in the offseason to compete for the starting strong safety job with Jahleel Addae.
