In an appeal to not just Chargers fans but San Diego voters who don't watch the team's games, Chargers special adviser Fred Maas touted the "big picture" aspects of a joint stadium and convention center downtown that the team's citizens initiative seeks.
Maas suggested that the Chargers, who've called San Diego home since 1961, enhance local industies' ability to recruit and retain employees.

I'm truly someone who believes that having an NFL football team has become part of the fabric of who this community is. And every time that you whittle away at that, it's one less asset that you can sell to employers in this town that are trying to keep people and to employers that are trying to attract people.
