SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego Chargers announced they completed their first interview for the team’s head coaching job on Thursday with Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive coordinator Mike Smith.
Smith, 57, served as the head coach for the Atlanta Falcons before being fired after the 2014 season. Smith finished with a 66-46 record for the Falcons in seven seasons, including four playoff appearances and two NFC South titles.
Smith led the Falcons to the NFC Championship Game at the end of the 2012 season.
Smith is the only person with head coaching experience the Chargers have requested to interview.
