SAN DIEGO -- Chargers president of football operations John Spanos made the call on firing Mike McCoy over the weekend, and will make his first head coaching hire in his new role this offseason.
During his first news conference in that role with reporters Monday, Spanos, the youngest son of San Diego Chargers chairman Dean Spanos, thanked McCoy for his dedication and hard work.
However, with San Diego winning just nine games in the past two years, Spanos said a change was needed.
