Chargers build to OL battle, sign Boyko

The competition for a couple practice-squad spots between offensive linemen whose names — to even the most fervent of followers — are obscure may not mean much in most cities. Here in San Diego, where O-line injuries have produced more opportunity than the Gold Rush, obscure names have a way of finding relevance.

And so, meet Brett Boyko.

The Chargers signed the former Eagles tackle on Thursday. He spent 2015 on Philadelphia's practice squad and now joins a brood of slimly-known big bodies vying for General Manager Tom Telesco's emergency contact sheet. Telesco has needed it more than he’d like during his tenure.
