The Chargers will be down to 53 players Saturday afternoon.
The reduction already has begun.
Several players were notified of their release Friday, as the team moves to tighten its roster from 75 to 53 by the 1 p.m. NFL-mandated deadline. Wide receiver Austin Pettis and cornerback Richard Crawford were part of the early cut wave, sources said, with rookie outside linebacker Ryan Mueller and offensive lineman Kenny Wiggins among the others.
