Chargers begin coach search - leadership key

Mike McCoy lost his job Sunday night due to the near-constant losing the Chargers have endured over the past two seasons, but the team’s top football executives, John Spanos and Tom Telesco, said Monday they’re to blame as well for the consecutive last-place finishes.

“It starts at the top,” Spanos said while seated next to Telesco on a podium inside Chargers Park.

“I’ve made mistakes, like everybody does,” Telesco said.

Spanos said he made the ultimate choice to fire McCoy, whose fourth Chargers team finished with a 5-11 record Sunday on the heels of the 4-12 season in 2015.
