SAN DIEGO -- Looking for depth at running back, the San Diego Chargers appeared to find a match in cat-quick halfback Ronnie Hillman.
Waived by the Minnesota Vikings this week, the Chargers claimed Hillman off waivers on Tuesday and waived receiver Griff Whalen to create space on the team's active roster.
The Chargers needed an experienced running back to spell second-year pro Melvin Gordon, who had been playing a majority of the reps in the backfield and is on pace for 400 touches this season.
