Brenden Rice is the son of Djakarta Edwards and Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice. He grew up in Chandler, Arizona where he attended Hamilton High School. At Hamilton, Rice was a star wideout and return man who helped lead his team to a 9-3 record as a senior. He ended his career with 123 receptions for 2,139 receiving yards and 27 touchdowns. Rice was rated a four-star prospect by Rivals and the No. 50 receiver in the country on top of being the No. 8 overall prospect in Arizona.
Rice chose to take his talents to the University of Colorado in Boulder.
