The Chargers’ first joint practice with the 49ers was filled with notable moments from start to finish.
During the one-on-one session, Keenan Allen got the best of former Chargers first-round pick Jason Verrett on a double move before hauling in a deep pass in the end zone. Tyron Johnson later got the best of a defender before making sure the opponent knew what just happened. For that, Brandon Staley made a point to walk on the field and pull Johnson back to the sideline before things could escalate further.
Later during the team session, it was veteran Jimmy Garoppolo against the Chargers’ first-team defense.
