For the new San Diego indoor football team that will play its home opener Sunday night, the first game last week was a disaster.
Correction: Disaster is too kind. But at least coach Burt Grossman kept his sense of humor.
“I’ve already got a worse record than Mike McCoy so there’s nowhere to go but up,” Grossman said.
Grossman’s team gets another chance, starting at 5:05 p.m. at Pechanga Arena San Diego. The game against Tucson is the first of seven home games.
When he played in the NFL after going eighth in the 1989 draft to San Diego, it wasn’t always clear where Grossman’s wise cracks ended and his straight talk began.
