In this Chargers news bulletin, the San Diego Chargers have just suffered a big blow to their defense as outside linebacker Melvin Ingram will not be placed on the team's injured reserve list.
Per Michael Gehlken of UT San Diego, Ingram's hip injury is extremely serious, yet he still could return to the team before the end of the 2014 NFL season:
Chargers are placing OLB Melvin Ingram (hip) on IR with designation to return, they announced.

Ingram's defensive presence was palpable at all times during the Chargers' 30-21 home victory over the Seattle Seahawks last Sunday, so losing him to an injury long-term could be a troubling blow for a defensive unit starting to get their sea legs.
"Melvin's tough to replace; good thing we have good young players," said the Chargers' Jarrett Johnson.
While Ingram was initially listed as dealing with a hamstring injury, the hip issue cited by Gehlken as the reasoning for shelving the talented linebacker might very well have been the real trouble all along.
