PHOENIX — C.J. Wilson pitched a lot better than he ran the bases on Thursday afternoon at Chase Field.
The Angels left-hander threw eight innings of one-run ball against the Arizona Diamondbacks in a 7-1 victory. He also made an ill-advised decision to try to stretch a routine single to right field in the fifth inning, and an even more ill-advised head-first slide into second base. He was out by several feet.
It was but a funny sidenote to the Angels’ comfortable victory. And there were a few of those, too. After Taylor Featherston and Johnny Giavotella hit home runs in the third inning, their teammates gave them the silent treatment on the bench.
