OAKLAND - Left-hander Greg Mahle, one of the Angels most pleasant surprises of spring training, has been promoted to the majors for the first time.
Presumably the Angels brought up Mahle to give them a lefty specialist against the A's, who have four left-handed hitters starting.
Mahle, 22, a product of Westminster High and UC Santa Barbara, replaces A.J. Achter, who was optioned to Triple-A.
Mahle gave up two runs in 12 1/3 innings in his first big league camp. Mahle had worked 1 2/3 scoreless innings at Triple-A Salt Lake City.
Last season, Mahle split his time between Class-A and Double-A, posting a 3.
