ANAHEIM – Mike Scioscia jumped out of the Angels’ dugout with ferocity Wednesday night. He had to make sure the play on the field was dead. He had to motion immediately to plate umpire Dana DeMuth that he would be requesting a review.
The Angels had just turned what appeared to be an game-ending double play of an Adam LaRoche grounder – first baseman C.J. Cron to shortstop Erick Aybar to pitcher Joe Smith, at first base. But, in real time, Smith’s foot was ruled off the bag, and Chicago’s potential tying run stood 90 feet away at third base.
