Trout makes history as Angels fall short

ST. PETERSBURG -- It was a rare clunker in what has otherwise been a breakout season for Tyler Skaggs.

The 27-year-old left-hander was charged with a career-high 10 runs over 3 1/3 innings in the Angels' 10-6 series-opening loss to the Rays on Tuesday night at Tropicana Field.

The bulk of the damage against Skaggs came in a disastrous fourth inning, when he retired only one of eight batters he faced and allowed the Rays to score seven runs, sinking the Angels into a 10-1 hole from which they would not recover.
