ANAHEIM -- Mariners director of player development Chris Gwynn has joined the list of candidates for the Angels' general manager vacancy, a source confirmed to MLB.com on Monday. The news was first reported by USA Today, which said Gwynn was interviewed by the Angels on Sunday.
Gwynn, 50, is the younger brother of late Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn and a former teammate of longtime Angels manager Mike Scioscia, playing alongside him with the Dodgers from 1987-91.
Gwynn joins Josh Byrnes (Dodgers senior vice president of baseball operations), Billy Eppler (Yankees assistant GM), Ross Atkins (Indians vice president of player personnel) and Tony LaCava (Blue Jays assistant GM) as known external candidates for the job vacated by Jerry Dipoto on July 1.
