Smith: Angels pitcher Ramos, wife happy with a little miracle

ANAHEIM – Several hours before a recent game, in an empty Angel Stadium and at the heart of center field, Angels relief pitcher Cesar Ramos and his wife, Melanie, took an intentional walk.

Ramos knelt down. So did Melanie. Between them toddled their 10-month-old daughter, Addison, a giggling bundle with a polka-dot bow around her head and “love” sewn in black across her red dress.

They call her their “little miracle” because she was conceived when Melanie was still recovering from Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and the baby-making odds were against them. She’s healthy, with her mother’s blue eyes and her father’s dark hair and long eyelashes.
