Smith: Angels party not as festive as usual

ANAHEIM – The Angels had a ho-hum week at the Winter Meetings.

On Wednesday, owner Arte Moreno, who served as grand marshal of the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade, was bah humbug about the team’s chances of signing a big-name free agent.

And a day earlier, the Angels Baseball Foundation and 830 AM threw their yearly children’s holiday party at ESPN Zone Downtown Disney and only one current player – pitcher Tyler Skaggs, who spent the 2015 season rehabbing from Tommy John surgery – was there.

Tisn’t the typically festive offseason for the Angels or their fans, who’ve grown accustomed to having Moreno gift wrap a new, fun, expensive toy under our tree to stoke our hopes for a World Series.
