Rod Carew is recovering from what doctors called a succesful operation in which he received a new heart and kidney, according to the American Heart Association.
The Hall of Famer underwent a 13-hour procedure from Thursday night until early Friday afternoon.
Doctors told Carew's family they were pleased with the operation, the AHA reported.
“We are overwhelmed with emotions right now – joy, relief, excitement and especially gratitude for all the doctors and nurses who have been with us at every step in this journey, and to the donor who made this possible,” Carew's wife Rhonda told the AHA.
