DETROIT -- Shohei Ohtani was not in the starting lineup for the Angels' series opener vs. the Tigers on Monday afternoon, but was available to pinch-hit, manager Mike Scioscia said.
Ohtani will also throw a bullpen session, which would traditionally put him on track to pitch Wednesday, but Scoscia was not clear about the timetable. Ohtani was originally scheduled to pitch Sunday against the Yankees, but was taken out of the rotation for what the Angels called "workload management."
"Right now he'll just throw his bullpen and get ready to pitch, but he is available," Scioscia said.
