Mike Trout powers Angels to victory in Matt Thaiss’s MLB debut

On a Wednesday night in Texas, the Angels won their second straight game behind multi-hit performances from Mike Trout, Kole Calhoun, Shohei Ohtani, and Dustin Garneau.

The scoring was set up by a Matt Thaiss opposite-field double off a borderline pitch on the middle-upper edge of the strike zone, splitting the left-center gap for his first major-league hit off Rangers starter Ariel Jurado. It was nothing short of a beauty.

Thaiss, 24, was drafted in the first round of 2016, and has steadily risen through the minor leagues. It will be exciting to see what he can do moving forward.
