ANAHEIM – Ricky Nolasco happily reported to the Angels on Tuesday. But it was the pitcher acquired from the Minnesota Twins who didn’t join the major league club who Manager Mike Scioscia was raving about.
Alex Meyer, 26, a 2011 first-round draft pick, is the reason Scioscia believes trading away steady starting pitcher Hector Santiago was worth it.
“This pitcher absolutely has as much upside as any pitcher in the game today,” Scioscia said of Meyer. “He just has to realize some of that potential, turn it into performance.”
Meyer was lauded as one of the top prospects in baseball as recently as a year ago.
