ANAHEIM -- Matt Shoemaker, who is seeking to prove that 2015 was the aberration and 2014 was the real thing, will officially begin that process with his first start of the season, on Friday night against the Texas Rangers.
Shoemaker was a revelation in 2014, when he was 16-4 with a 3.04 ERA and he finished second in the Rookie of the Year voting. Last year, though, he slumped to a 7-10 record and a 4.46 ERA. He was briefly sent to Triple-A.
Shoemaker may be facing the right team. He is 4-0 with a 2.
