The Los Angeles Angels added more depth to their bullpen by signing experienced reliever Al Alburquerque Friday, pending a physical.
Alburquerque and the Angels agreed to a one-year deal worth $1.1 million, but will be under club control through the 2017 season. The deal includes performance bonuses.
The right-handed Alburquerque’s arsenal includes a mix of three pitches: fastball, slider and what scouts call a “cross curve.”
The 29-year-old is a hard thrower, his fastball ranges from 94-96. His slider is his out pitch and has a high swing and miss rate with a range of 85-88.
