ANAHEIM -- The Angels recently signed relief pitcher Javy Guerra, the onetime Dodgers closer, to a Minor League contract with a Spring Training invite.
Guerra was a fourth-round Draft pick in 2004 by the Dodgers who thrived when healthy and on the field, compiling a 2.87 ERA and 30 saves in 146 career appearances.
But the 30-year-old right-hander spent most of the 2013 season in the Minor Leagues, while slowed by knee and shoulder injuries. He was suspended 50 games for a drug of abuse in 2015, a season that saw him make only seven appearances with the White Sox and in Triple-A.
