SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Garrett Richards greeted the news in front of his locker at Salt River Fields with little more than a shrug.
When a reporter mentioned that the Angels’ ace had touched 100 mph on his first-inning fastball Tuesday afternoon against the Arizona Diamondbacks, he claimed he was hearing the fact for the first time.
“I don’t know what to think of that,” Richards said, “but my arm felt pretty good today.”
Here is something to make of it. His velocity, at least over the 2 2/3 innings of his second Cactus League start, is certainly up.
