ANAHEIM – Slowly but surely, Jered Weaver’s pitches aren’t so slow.
After Weaver threw seven innings in the Angels’ 8-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Sunday, Mike Scioscia was excited about how “frisky” Weaver had gotten with his fastball.
He was talking about fastballs that were only 85-86 mph.
Which is still better than 82-83 mph.
“It’s all relative,” the Angels manager said. “With Jered, his delivery is a little deceptive. When he was throwing 90, it looked like he was throwing 94. Anytime he’s able to get some good life on his fastball, it’s definitely going to play up and help his offspeed pitches be more effective.
