Beloved former California Angels star Rod Carew told Sports Illustrated that he had a heart attack on September 20th and was brought back to life by doctors. Carew had a left ventricular assist device implanted to help keep his heart pumping, but he also said he is in need of a heart transplant.
The LVAD was inserted in Carew during a six-hour open heart surgery that was performed by doctors at Scripps La Jolla Hospital in the San Diego area. Carew told reporters that he suffered a massive heart attack while golfing by himself in Corona, California back in September.
