CHICAGO – Jerry Dipoto, who resigned as Angels general manager last month, confirmed Wednesday he has accepted an interim job as a consultant with the Boston Red Sox.
Dipoto, 47, will consult with Red Sox general manager Ben Cherrington for at least the next several months.
Dipoto worked as a scout for the Red Sox, along with Cherrington, in 2003 and 2004. After that, he had jobs with the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks. The Angels hired him as their GM following the 2011 season.
After three and a half seasons running the Angels, Dipoto resigned July 1 in a surprise move, turning over the reigns on an interim basis to former GM Bill Stoneman.
