HOUSTON – This time, Jered Weaver couldn’t slip so many of those tantalizing pitches past the Houston Astros hitters.
When Weaver beat the Astros in Anaheim earlier this month, he had the free-swinging team practically screwing themselves into the ground taking big hacks at his assortment of slow breaking balls and a, well, modest fastball.
The Astros pounded Weaver for five runs – and it could have been worse – in the Angels’ 6-3 loss at the start of a critical series Monday night.
The Angels dropped 3 ½ games behind the Astros for the final wild-card spot, with 12 games to go.
