SEATTLE – The Angels’ 4-3 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night is the latest example of why making predictions in baseball is a dicey proposition.
The Angels, whose offense had been struggling for most of the past two months, were facing Felix Hernandez, the Cy Young winner who had thoroughly dominated them for two years.
Meanwhile, the Angels were giving the ball to spot starter Nick Tropeano, who had a 5.66 ERA in his first four starts.
Baseball being what it is, of course the Angels won, thanks to a three-run homer by new leadoff hitter David Murphy and one from Mike Trout and five effective innings from Tropeano.
