MINNEAPOLIS – That didn’t work either.
A night after Manager Mike Scioscia opted against using setup man Joe Smith in the eighth inning of a tie game, only to see Fernando Salas lose, he used Smith.
And this time Smith took the loss.
The Angels’ 6-4 loss to the Minnesota Twins on Saturday afternoon was decided by back-to-back homers, by Oswaldo Arcia and Byung Ho Park, against Smith in the eighth inning.
Scioscia’s reasoning for sticking with Salas on Friday was that he had already run through four relievers and didn’t want to burn Salas after he faced just one batter in the seventh.
