Final: Angels rout Red Sox, 11-1, in Game 1

ANAHEIM — The 22-year-old left-hander who opposed the Angels on Monday afternoon at Angel Stadium is one of baseball’s best young pitchers. Boston’s Eduardo Rodriguez entered the game having made nine major-league starts, seven of which were dominant, two of which were awful.

After the awful ones, rumors abounded he was tipping pitches. The Red Sox pitching coach, Carl Willis, even said it was “borderline obvious” he was doing so after the second outing, last month.

Consider it likely, then, the Angels knew something about what Rodriguez was throwing, because they scored seven runs on the final eight pitches he offered in an 11-1 blowout victory Monday, in Game 1 of a doubleheader at Angel Stadium.
