ANAHEIM — Mike Scioscia leapt out of the Angels’ dugout on Wednesday night, motioning immediately to home-plate umpire Dana DeMuth that he would be requesting a review.
The Angels had just turned what appeared to be an game-ending double play, but Joe Smith’s foot was ruled off the bag at first base. Chicago’s potential tying run now stood 90 feet away at third base. The umpires conferred, and, eventually there was a review — a 3 minute, 36 second one.
The suspense built, and then, finally, DeMuth signaled that an out had been recorded. The center-field fireworks went off instantaneously.
