KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A nice tidy Angels ballgame – heading toward a rare victory for hard-luck Matt Shoemaker – all went up in smoke in one wild exchange that began with a simple bunt.
A two-run Angels lead in the seventh inning vanished on that play and the Angels lost, 7-5, to the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday night.
Shoemaker had been pitching well and the Angels had given him a 3-1 lead, a veritable bounty of run-support considering his recent fate.
Alex Gordon dropped a bloop single into left and then Paulo Orlando singled, putting runners at first and second with no outs for Raul Mondesi Jr.
