Richards pitched his first shutout of the season and Calhoun hit two homers, the first multihomer game of his career, in the Angels’ 3-0 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Saturday night.
The Angels, who have won 13 of their last 16 games, have expanded their division lead over the Houston Astros to a season-high 1 ½ games.
Richards gave up just two hits and a walk in what was clearly his best game of the season. He began the ninth with 104 pitches and closer Huston Street warming in the bullpen -- sitting on 299 saves -- but Manager Mike Scioscia let Richards finish.
