ANAHEIM – Johnny Giavotella, who just missed a month because of double vision, sparked the Angels victory by seeing a double.
The Angels pulled out a 3-2 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Sunday, keeping a half-game behind the Houston Astros in the wild card race with seven games to play.
The game was tied, 2-2, when Giavotella led off the eighth inning with what seemed to be a routine single, but center fielder Brad Miller played the ball too casually and Giavotella bolted for second. Miller’s throw beat him, but Giavotella slid around the tag to get into scoring position.
