PEORIA, Ariz. —
The Angels opening day roster came into focus a little bit more ahead of their Monday afternoon game against the Chicago Cubs.
BARRETO SHUT DOWN: Infielder Franklin Barreto will be shut down for four-to-six weeks after experiencing elbow inflammation, the club announced Monday. Barreto had been in the mix for one of the last bench spots on the opening day roster. Not only was he hitting .350 this spring, but he’s also out of minor league options.
With Barreto out, Luis Rengifo seems like the frontrunner to serve in that utility infielder role, although manager Joe Maddon said others, including Jose Rojas, remain in the mix.
