MILWAUKEE – The Angels’ hitters have done one thing more than any other team in the majors, and it’s not a good thing.
The Angels have grounded into a major league high 31 double plays, none more disheartening than one in the seventh inning of their 5-4 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday night.
The Angels had loaded the bases with no outs, down by a run. Cliff Pennington hit a soft popup for the first out. Yunel Escobar then hit a routine grounder to shortstop, which the Brewers converted into an inning-ending double play.
In the third inning, Albert Pujols had hit into an easy double play swinging at a 3-0 pitch.
