The Angels traded Collin Cowgill to the Cleveland Indians in exchange for cash considerations Wednesday, just hours before the deadline for offering him arbitration.
They also non-tendered arbitration-eligible left-hander Cesar Ramos, making him a free agent.
The Angels likely decided that they were also going to non-tender Cowgill, but instead of making him a free agent, they traded him.
Cowgill, who would have made just over $1 million in arbitration, hit .188 in an injury-shortened 2015 season. The 29-year-old is a career .236 hitter. He is best known for his defense.
The Angels have acquired other outfield options this winter, such as Todd Cunningham and Rafael Ortega.
