Angels sign Venezuelan minor league OF Ortega

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Outfielder Rafael Ortega has agreed to a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Angels.

The Angels announced the deal Tuesday.

Ortega spent last season with the St. Louis Cardinals' Triple-A affiliate in Memphis, batting .286 with two homers and 42 RBI. The Venezuelan also led all PCL outfielders with 15 assists.

Ortega has spent eight seasons in the minors, including his first six years in the Colorado system.

He made his only major league appearances in two games for the Rockies in late 2012. He got a hit at Dodger Stadium in his first career plate appearance, reaching base six times overall.
