Catcher Tony Sanchez, the fourth overall pick in the 1999 draft, has signed a minor league deal with the Angels.
Sanchez provides depth behind Jett Bandy and Carlos Perez, the two catchers the Angels expect to have in the majors next season.
Sanchez, 28, was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates and reached the majors with them in 2013. He has played in 51 major league games over parts of three seasons, most recently in 2015, with a combined average of .259 and a .681 OPS.
Sanchez was released by the Pirates in January and spent most of this season with the Toronto Blue Jays.
