Dustin Ackley, once one of the top prospects in baseball, has agreed with the Angels on a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training.
The Angels will give Ackley a look at first, second, left and right field. He hits left-handed, so he provides yet another alternative for a lineup that is heavy on right-handed hitters.
Ackley, who is coming off shoulder surgery that cost him most of 2016, was the No. 2 overall pick in 2009, but his career has not lived up to the billing.
The Seattle Mariners, who drafted him, traded Ackley to the New York Yankees in July 2015.
