TEMPE, Ariz. – Johnny Giavotella was working on double plays when the ground ball to Andrelton Simmons was quickly redirected toward him on the bag.
Only he didn’t quite know how it got there.
“Simmons,” Giavotella asked. “Did that ball come from between your legs?”
“Only if you saw it,” Simmons replied.
“I didn’t see it,” a dumfounded Giavotella responded.
It was Giavotella’s introduction to a new era in the Angels infield. He will be playing alongside arguably the best shortstop in baseball, a player who plays with a flair that awes teammates.
