The Angels’ setup man, who sprained his ankle stumbling down a flight of stairs Sept. 19, passed his final tests Tuesday and proclaimed himself ready to pitch Wednesday.
“I have done everything they’ve asked me to do,” Smith said. “I’ve passed all the tests. ... To me, I’m ready.”
The Angels never officially said Smith would be out for the rest of the regular season, but sprained ankles typically take at least two weeks to heal, and Smith will beat that by a few days.
On Tuesday, Smith threw 17 pitches in the bullpen, which he said was his normal warmup he would do before coming into a game.
