Angels release Jon Jay and Jesse Chavez

The Angels continued to trim their roster down on Friday, as they released outfielder Jon Jay and pitcher Jesse Chavez.

Both players weren’t playing particularly well this spring, so this doesn’t come as much of a surprise. They were both invited to camp as non-roster invitees.

Jay was hoping to make the team as the fourth outfielder, but he was pretty awful at the plate. The 36-year-old was 2-for-29 this spring with 10 strikeouts and only one walk. With Jay being released, it looks like it almost certainly will be Juan Lagares getting the fourth outfield spot.
