The Angels trailed 6-1 entering the eighth inning and rallied to within a run, but the comeback effort fell short in a home loss to the Mariners.
Shohei Ohtani’s two-run single with two outs in the ninth got the Angels to within 6-5 on Friday, and he advanced into scoring position on a single by Jared Walsh. But Phil Gosselin lined out to end the game.
Ohtani had a memorable day off the field as well.
He received $150,000 for participating in the Home Run Derby on Monday at Coors Field. Ohtani, who is making $3 million this season, decided to pay it forward, per Jeff Fletcher at the Orange County Register:
Ohtani received $150,000 for participating in the Derby, but he distributed that to around 30 Angels support staffers to thank them for their work, sources said.
