The Angels optioned infielder Ryan Schimpf to Triple-A Salt Lake and brought up right-handed pitcher Jaime Barria in a corresponding move Thursday.
Barria will start Thursday's matchup against the Orioles in Anaheim. The rookie has gone 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA over two starts for the Angels this season, and he memorably locked horns with Giants first baseman Brandon Belt in a modern-record 21-pitch at-bat on April 22. Barria allowed two earned runs over two innings in that start (his most recent outing with the Angels), including a scoreless first after he had thrown 49 total pitches.
