Angels officially sign Alburquerque, DFA Navarro

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- The Los Angeles Angels have designated outfielder Efren Navarro for assignment.

The team also announced the signing of reliever Al Alburquerque on Tuesday.

Navarro has batted .246 in parts of four big league seasons with the Angels, playing both in the outfield and at first base. The 50th-round pick never got the chance at an everyday job in Anaheim, even while the Angels had no steady left fielder last season.

The Angels confirmed last week they had signed Alburquerque, who became a free agent last month when the Detroit Tigers declined to offer him a 2016 contract.
